One Pot Smoked Sausage Broccoli Pasta

I’m so excited to share this for One Pot Smoked Sausage Broccoli Pasta recipe with y’all! We have finally moved to Tennessee and life is busy, but we’re settling in just fine. We love it!

A couple of months before we moved I threw this One Pot Smoked Sausage Broccoli Pasta together. I was inspired by an Instagram post I saw from sandraseasycooking! Sandra posted her plate of “adult mac and cheese”. It was full of beef hot dogs and lots of broccoli on the side and it looked like actual heaven. I crave mac and cheese and hot dogs, folks. I’m an adult, I swear. One thing led to another and this One Pot Smoked Sausage Broccoli Pasta came together. As always, I’ve lightened it up a bit so that you can eat it any day of the week. This would also be super good with fresh asparagus or frozen peas if you don’t have fresh broccoli on hand. I like to enjoy this pasta next to a big ol’ side salad full of fresh veggies or roasted carrots!

Let’s make some pasta!

Smoked Sausage, Onion, and garlic being cooked in a pan

Heat a large deep skillet with 1 tsp olive oil. Add in one chopped yellow onion, 3-4 cloves minced garlic (1 tbsp minced), and one pack 13 oz of turkey smoked sausage (cut into slices and then in half). Let it all cook together until the onions are soft and the sausage is browned up just a bit.

I’ve always been a fan of Hillshire Farm Turkey Smoked Sausage. If you can’t find this type in your neck of the woods. I know it would taste so good with another type of Turkey or Chicken Sausage!

Here is my FAVORITE skillet for One Pot Meals!

Pasta, Broccoli, milk, chicken broth in a skillet

Step two. Seriously y’all this is so stinkin’ easy. It’s going to be your new favorite dinner and your family is going to love you for it. Stir in 5 cups freshly chopped broccoli florets, 2 cups chicken broth, 1/2 cup 2% milk, 1/2 tsp Lawry’s Seasoned Salt, and 8 ounces of pasta. I’m using Orecchiette pasta, but this will do well with something like elbow noodles, medium shells, or bowties too! Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. Continue to simmer while covered for about 12-14 minutes until the liquid is reduced and the noodles are cooked through.

*If the noodles are cooked through and the liquid hasn’t fully reduced. Turn up the heat to medium high and stir constantly for a minute or two until completely reduced.

Now remove the pan from heat and stir in some parmesan cheese! Y’all know I’m all bout ease, but I can’t recommend grating your own parmesan enough. It makes all the difference! I keep green can of parmesan in my fridge! It has it’s place in my cooking so I’m not being snobby (promise)! But, when it comes to certain recipes, especially pasta, freshly grated will always win.

You’re all done! See? Wasn’t that easy as can be? Don’t forget to throw some salt and pepper on this to taste. I also like to add a few shakes of crushed red pepper for spice!

  • 1.5 oz freshly grated parmesan cheese

*Note: I have made this at least 10 times now because we love it so much and it’s so easy. But, a couple of the times I’ve made it the liquid didn’t completely reduce, but the noodles were totally done. I have no idea why! But, if that happens to you. Here’s what you do: If the noodles are cooked through and the liquid hasn’t fully reduced then turn up the heat to medium high and stir constantly for a minute or two until completely reduced. Easy fix!

  1. This was so easy and comforting. We ate the whole dog-gone skillet (and there’s just 3 of us left at home now). Thank you Star. All your recipes are delightful. This week so far I’ve made the poor man’s meal and this dish and will make the white chicken chili on Sunday (which I’ve made sooooooo many times already). Thank you, thank you!

Outstanding! I made this using vegetable stock (I’m allergic to chicken) and oat milk (allergic to dairy) and omitted the cheese! My husband loved it and so did I!! Very tasty and flavorful!! Definitely will me in my meal rotation!

This was **extremely** easy and extremely flavorful. I made it for guests so I made a double recipe* and there was almost none left! Everyone loved it and I told my husband this is our new go-to for company, nothing about it tasted like it was WW friendly!

*Next time I make a double batch (there will be a next time!) I’ll cook each batch in its own pot, my broccoli was overcooked because it took longer for my liquids to come to a boil, or I’ll add the broccoli later.
